Live mp3 Broadcasting with Audion

Panic Audion is an mp3 player, encoder and web casting tool from Panic Software. Because Audion uses Shoutcast protocols for webcasting, it is compatible with Darwin/QuickTime Streaming Server.

The steps to configure Audion to webcast through DSS/QTSS are:

  1. Launch Audion.
  2. Select Stream from the Tools menu:

  3. The Stream window lets you define:
    • The source of your stream (can be an Audion Playlist, or a live feed from any inputs on your Mac)
    • The mode for your audio (Stereo or Mono)
    • The bit rate in kbit/second
    • The address of the server. This is the address of the DSS/QTSS that will reflect the stream.
    • The Port number to stream on (usually 8000).

Once you have configured the webcast, start streaming by clicking on the Start button. Tune in on your stream from any shoutcast compatible streaming client with a http URL. In the example above, that URL would be:
http://192.168.0.210:8000
